Psychological Testing

Psychologists use tests and other assessment tools to measure and observe a patient’s behavior to arrive at a diagnosis and guide treatment. Psychological testing may sound intimidating, but it is designed to help you. Psychological evaluations serve a diagnostic purpose and can build treatment plans to better support everyone involved. Evaluations and psychological assessments will capture the history of the concern, assess general functioning, and offer detailed recommendations for what might help an individual thrive at home, school, or daily life. These recommendations will provide guidance for yourself, parents, doctors, schools, or others to build a full understanding of general functioning.

For parents who are trying to make sense of their child’s poor academic performance or disruptive behaviors at home, it can be a discouraging and exhausting journey. And, if you are the parent of a child who is struggling with a learning disability, ADHD, or a mental health issue, such as anxiety or depression, trying to help them can sometimes be challenging. A psychological assessment can gain understanding of the patient’s strengths and weaknesses, help them overcome challenges, and provide strategies  and recommendations for success.

Psychological diagnostic testing can be used to:

  • Help diagnose mood disorders or mental illness.

  • Collect information about educational abilities, strengths/weaknesses, and emotional standing.

  • Assess personality, intelligence, and neuropsychological functioning.

  • Determine whether a patient is eligible for a specific treatment.

  • Create a treatment plan.
